Top 4 Tips for Hiring the Perfect Creative Professional on Fiverr
Ask Queen #3 - I want to hire someone to mix and master my music, any suggestions?
Ask Queen A Question (AQAQ)
Shalom and great afternoon! I know how frustrating it can be when you have a creative idea, but you struggle to find the right and affordable help to make it a reality.
I’ve hired several freelancers on Fiverr for different creative projects throughout the years and it really can be time saving and rewarding. However, in my experience knowing the key things to look for BEFORE pushing the order button is crucial to make sure you get your money's worth and are happy with the outcome.
In this blog post, I’m answering a question that came in from a sister wanting to know if I could recommend any mixing and mastering engineers she could hire to polish her songs?
I've been mixing my own music and Open Writers 🎶 for so long that I didn't have a specific mixing referral used enough to recommend. One platform however did come to mind and that was Fiverr. I’m sure you’ve heard of them. There are some real jewels on Fiverr if you know how to spot them out.
Whether you are a music artist, entrepreneur, or simply someone looking for creative assistance, these 4 tips will guide you through the process. In this blog post, we’ll discuss the important things to look for to help you hire the right person and make the most out of your Fiverr experience.
In fact, I just used someone on Fiverr to design a logo for Good Love Talks, my new relationship channel on YouTube. Please subscribe if you like good love talks from a faith-based perspective. I’ll be using images from their company profile for tip examples.
So, let’s dive right in.
1 - What Does Their Portfolio (Examples of Work) Reflect?
Take time to look through their portfolio and see if you like the examples and work done for others. Is it your style? Do they meet your expectations for quality? Do you get a good feel about them based on what you see or hear? Can you imagine their skills working beautifully for your ideas? If the signals are giving you a green light, then go deeper.
2 - What Is Their Average Rating & How Many Reviews Do They Have?
In this example you can see they have a 5 star rating with 238 reviews. That’s really good. I seldomly ever hire anyone on Fiverr that has less than a 5 star rating. You may see 4.9 because someone wasn’t satisfied and that doesn’t necessarily mean the service is trash, just means you can’t please everyone. So don’t let a 4.9 steer you away, but if you’re going to take that chance, definitely don’t skip the next tip! Before we get to tip number 3, I’d like to give you these…
2 Gemstones:
💎How many orders do they currently have in the queue?
If they have between 1 and 5, that’s great. That means they have active buyers / business. If there are no orders in the queue, that doesn’t mean anything is wrong. The question then becomes…
💎When was their “Last delivery”?
In the image above, you can see it was only 22 hours ago which is a good thing! Means they are active and on their grind! Ok, now on to the tip you don’t want to skip!
3 - What Are Their Reviews REALLY Saying & Where Are They Coming From?
Always look thoroughly through their reviews to determine the quality and overall satisfaction of feedback being provided for the service. You can look for people mentioning things like “He/She delivered on time and so fast!” “It was a pleasure working with such and such, they were friendly and communicated throughout!” or “He/She was very patient in getting my project the way I wanted and revised until I was completely happy!” Those are good signs. Also, in my experience, it’s important to know what country these reviews are coming from. China, Italy, Australia? I often like hiring people on Fiverr who have provided services for ALL countries, however, if I don’t see ANY reviews from the USA, I typically pass - that’s just my comfort level. The reason is explained in the next tip…
4 - How Is Their Communication?
The only way to find out is to contact them. There are MANY foreign countries providing services on Fiverr. I’ve hired people from Ukraine, London, South Africa, and the latest, India. I’ve had good experiences using people abroad and people within. Some of the most amazing people I’ve hired were actually outside of America. Your goal is trying to uncover how competent they are in understanding your needs and how fluent they are with the language you speak.
Reach out to them by using their “Contact me” button on their page and let the communication test begin. See how quickly they respond. Ask them short questions like “Hey! I like your portfolio and want to see if you could help me with x, y & z"?” They may respond by asking you to provide more information, which is great. Or they may simply tell you they can help you and please proceed with placing an order. If they don’t ask for more information - that could be a sign. Follow up with more specific details on what you need and see how they respond. You’ll know within a few dialogues back and forth if they’re the right fit for the job.
Basically, what you’re doing is auditioning them. If they don’t have a good handle on communication and understanding your needs then when hired, you may have to constantly explain what you’re looking for and wait for them to revise. It can be a total nightmare, so don’t solely go off of their pretty shiny portfolio - good communication is a must on Fiverr.
1 Final Gemstone:
💎What are the differences between seller levels on Fiverr?
Seller levels are based on many factors such as how long a seller has been on Fiverr, how many orders completed, ratings, reviews etc. Think of it this way…
Top Rated Seller: More expensive but most likely more experienced.
New Seller: Fresh on the scene, cheaper but may lack experience / quality.
Level 2 Seller: Flexible pricing, sufficient experience, professional quality.
Personally, I’ve had great experiences with new sellers and subpar experiences with higher level sellers. For reference: the fellow I hired to create my Good Love Talks logo is a Level 2 seller and it was a wonderful experience. Here’s his design gig on Fiverr if you're interested. Tell him “Good Love Talks” sent you 😊
In Conclusion
Fiverr is a great place to find good help at reasonable prices. Always do your homework when using Fiverr for a creative project and keep these important tips in mind. Hope this helps!

I wish I would've listened to you before Sis. could have saved me some money. You know, some people are very talented but don't ask enough questions about what YOU want. They deliver what they want to. As a contractor in the tech field I've made this mistake in the past. It's all about your customer and clear communication. Going forward I will use this tips for real. Thank you so much. You are so kind to write this. Abba YAH barak you dear sistah Hadassah Queen O. I love your music. I didn't' realize there was a difference between mixing and mastering. You are a good mixer and song writer and producer. You must have people contacting you with crazy requests over the years to tap into exploiting your talents but you've used them for Abba instead. As someone who's truly in a learning phases and feeling at times like I've had a lesser allotment of talents to multiply I truly admire individuals such as yourself who have taken every opportunity to use what you've been given for YAH's glory. Keep shining your light. Thanks for this personalized article. I'm overwhelmed reading. Praise YAH!
May we all use what YaH has given us all.
