Reflecting on the Night Before Christmas: Embracing Love, Connection, and Truth
Around this time of year, you can feel alone but praise Yah that He never leaves nor forsakes us. In this blog post, I’m sharing some thoughts on how I’m approaching this season, though I do not celebrate Christmas.
🌟 As the night before Christmas unfolds, I find myself thinking about the essence of this season, especially for those of us who no longer identify with a specific religion. In a world where this time of year might feel no different from any other day, there's something truly remarkable that emerges—the subtle kindness that seems to blanket our surroundings. Well, except for that memorable encounter involving a big trucker guy yelling at a lady outside of Best Buy—let's just say, it wasn't an example of holiday cheer.
Whether at the store, coffee shops, or the post office, when the conversation about "Happy Holidays" or Christmas plans arises, I find myself relying on the Spirit to guide my words. It's a moment of discernment, taking in the room, understanding the person, and authentically sharing my truth—a simple acknowledgment of appreciation. “Hey, I appreciate that. I don’t get into the holidays much though and haven’t for quite some time.” I then follow up with something positive that’s happening in my life like mentioning that I’m spending time with my family more and getting settled in a new place we were blessed with.
Depending on the connection and the prompting of the Spirit, I've engaged in meaningful discussions in the past, exploring the origins of this time of year, from Saturnalia to the Winter solstice. The key, I've learned, is to approach these conversations with love and an open spirit, allowing the Ruach to guide me in building connections rather than tearing them down. A single conversation can open doors to deeper understanding, bridging the gap between perspectives. It's a reminder not to forget the joy we once found (though in our ignorance) in these festivities and to lead by example, demonstrating love rather than judgment.
In the grander scheme, the Creator Yah outlined in the scriptures His special set apart festivals and feasts that hold profound meaning. Spanning from the Tanakh (commonly known as the Old Testament) to the times of Yahusha, these important days, like Passover, Tabernacles to name a few and Abyb (the scriptural New Year in Spring), offer a spiritual tapestry woven into history. Though we may not be in the "holy land" to observe these feasts as the Israelites once did, we can remember and reflect on their significance, gaining insight from the fabric of spiritual history and how they may guide us into the future.
In conclusion, don’t give up on your family and friends who may have different perspectives. Let love and the Ruach, the guiding spirit of all truth, continue to lead your words and actions. Embrace this time of year as an opportunity to be a fountain of love, building new connections in ways you might not have imagined before. 💖✨
And sure, these times can make you feel alone if all of your family still engage in the holiday, but I’ll leave you with these comforting and timeless words of Jeremiah 29:11 from the TS2009 version:
🙏 "For I know the plans I am planning for you,” declares יהוה, “plans of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and an expectancy."
